Schenkkade strip (1992)
150 m
The parking strip 'Boekweitkamp' is a parking strip which stretches several hundreds of meters, bordering on meadows and kitchen gardens, amounted to a kind of no-man's land. Here, great numbers of private sales of used cars took place. The car's price and the owner's phone number were posted behind the wind-screen.
Proposal: Part of the parking strip measuring about 150 meters, will be officially designated for the sale of private cars. This part of the strip will be marked in three different ways:
? The road surface will be painted in a clear blue colour.
? Along the strip at three-meter intervals loudspeaker boxes will be hung on a steel cable between wooden poles to play background music during hours of sale.
? A sign made out of horizontal laths normally used at construction sites to display the names of constructors and architects, marks the beginning of the selling strip.
The phone booth and stall already present on the site are part of the proposal. The coffee stall is the appropriate place to close deals. The public phone can be used to contact the owners.
